Fellowship in RGHF |
| Rotarians and their partners and guests from the 29 Districts of Zones 17 and 18a met from Friday 18th through to Sunday 20th April for the 85th Annual Conference of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland. |
Tim
Tucker, who manned the booth during most of the weekend,
commented:"Every meeting and conversation connected with RGHF and the booth was a joy. Comments such as 'I never knew that', 'If only I'd have known', 'Why didn't any one tell me this was available' were frequent. If you have the opportunity of a booth at your own district or regional conference, leap at the the chance - you will not be short of conversations and history related fellowship from the moment the conference opens to the the last minutes before breakdown. Even better, have two or three fellow RGHF members share the time on the booth with you." |

The setting for the event this year was Bournemouth, D110, situated on the
south coast of England in the county of Dorset, just bordering Hampshire to
the east. As often seems the case, Bournemouth was warm for the time of year
and sunny with plenty of life on the beach throughout the day. April 2010
was the 19th time that RIBI had made Bournemouth it's home for the
conference weekend. RGHF had it's first booth at the RIBI conference this year and hopes to return in future years. Currently there are 21 RGHF members in Zone 17, including RI President John Kenny and RIBI President David Fowler, and 10 members in Zone 18a. RGHF members, including Presidents John and David, enjoyed meeting up together over the weekend at the RGHF booth, in the Rotary Showcase (Hall of Friendship), during the plenary sessions, at the evening entertainments and about the town. |

With so much history on the fellowship's 4,000+ pages of
researched history it was difficult to decide which aspects to
focus on at the booth. In the end Missing Histories, District
1110 History, Rotary Friendship Trees and Silver Anniversary
Jugs were featured, as well as well known Rotarians from the
past. |

| There are just seven RIBI districts where RGHF still need a District History. Bournemouth is in D1110 so this history seemed appropriate to show. Many of the local Rotarians were unaware that their district history was on the RGHF website before visiting the RGHF booth. The link with Friendship Trees was included due to RIBI President David Fowler planting Friendship Trees throughout the 29 districts of the islands of Great Britain and Ireland during 2009-10. This project was inspired by what David had read on the RGHF website about the first Friendship Trees of RIP Sydney Pascall and of President Emeritus Paul Harris. The hunt for the missing Rotary 25th Anniversary Jugs is always a good story to tell, but didn't unearth any newly found missing jugs during the conference. |
